Hi all, im Dave.
Dont have a car yet, but i saw the excel series in the Race magazine, then found this site, and ive been madly reading threads since!
Im keen to have a crack at building a car myself, i get as much enjoyment out of that sort of thing as actually driving it...im also keen to get started ASAP. Im looking around for a suitable car at the moment, then ill get cracking.
So if anyone knows of any good cars for sale to start a build with please give me a yell
Also, is there anyone located around the S.E. suburbs of Melbourne that would be willing to let me have a looksie at their Excel Rally car? I havent seen any close up in the flesh yet...and im sure ill have lots of questions.
Otherwise, whens the next Vic event?! See you all there :)
A very excited Dave

You boys just love giving out your phone numbers don't you!? :p
Na, seriously, you won't ago astray in the Vic series. I'm getting fairly familiar with half the Vic guys, and they're a top group, and very suportive of each other!

hi again all!
well things have been progressing well in the last couple of weeks...i have now got 2 excels in my backyard! :D
havent managed to get stuck into them yet, work has been nuts but at least that helps pay for it all...
when i decided to go ahead with the build i asked around my friends to see if anyone knew of anyone with an excel that was looking for a new car, shook that tree and two excels fell out
both are single cam engines tho unfortunately, but it will be a good starting point considering ive never done anything with rally (apart from official lol). One of the engines appears to be a bit smokey, but the other one only has 80k on it so that will be my 'race' engine. Both bodies are pretty good, just shopping trolley stuff, and one has a dent in the front bumper and one as a dent in the hatch, so with the two together i should have a perfectly good car ready for me to make my own marks on :slap:
also managed to secure myself a co-driver, a nice lightweight who is also nuts about motorsport...although she is a little worried about needing to carry a big brown paper bag  other good side is that this gives me someone to help me with the build at least...!
let the games begin. i will be doing most of the work myself (budget..!) so i will post up pics and stuff as we go along and you can all point out what ive done wrong lol
cheers,
dave

Why unfortunately ?
I don't think anyone has yet demonstrated definitively that there is any significant advantage of the DOHC vs. the SOHC cars (sure, the DOHC makes slightly more power on paper, but virtually everyone is running 2nd hand engines of varying age anyway, so what the new car specifications say is largely irrelevant IMHO).
The 1st year of the Victorian series was comprehensively won by a SOHC car. Car setup & driver ability are far more important than horsepower.
