Hi ya'll,
Well, there's a rally this weekend, and it looks like its going to pour rain for the next 3 days! Surprises me... no really!
Anyways, praying to the rain gods that its going ahead we went and got the trophy's sand etched for this weekend!
I reckon they've come up pretty smick!

And just for a size comparison we enlisted the services of the probable winning driver to display his trophy!

Good luck to all concerned. I did this rally two years ago and had a fat time. You should too! :D
And remember, shiny side up....

Rally over, back home and shaking the dust out of everything.
Had an absolute ball. Thank you very much Justin for the ride and for bringing it back on its wheels.:naughty:
The event was well organised and we had some great roads.
Looking forward to getting back there when ever we can.

4 Excels entered in our first ever Excel round! Finishing result:
- Latho
- Luke Page
- Kelvin Taylor
- Justin Sinclair
Well done on Justin for finishing and bringing car home without a scratch (unlike the missus' Honda Accord!). Well done to Kelvin for finishing his first rally in a FWD and Excel, and with only minor damage after an altercation with a rock. :(
We had a decent run, only a couple of mid-speed spins but nothing too scary which I was happy about considering it was my first blind rally in 3 years!
We also picked up:
1st QRC P2
1st Clubman P2
3rd Outright Clubman
So overall I'm pretty happy aye! I still cannot get over how quick a stock Excel with a set of DMS shoved under it can be when peddled hard. We lost to Kent in the ex-factory Lantra by less than 10 seconds, just missing out on first FWD and first Hyundai, but I can't really complain! Also, I haven't seen the results but I think we were inside the top 10 QRC...
Thanks to the Gold Coast Tweed Motorsport Club for putting on a great event! Everyone speaks about how good Urbenville is, and now I know! Good mix of roads, from just flat out scary fast, to tight and twisty, and with good scenery to boot!
Thanks again to Nate for doing an excellent job in the left hand seat in what was his first blind rally, and also thanks to the other Excel guys for keeping me honest and having a good time!
Looking forward to the next round at Jimna!!!

Congratulations Greg.
EXCELLENT result.
You will have to give me a few FWD pointers.
Latho
28-09-2008, 08:53 PM
Practice dude! That's all it is! I've only ever rallied FWDs (Civic and Lada) so I reckon I've got them pretty down pat... You can't go past seat time, and with a couple of days at Kennedy's under our belt I'm pretty comitted in what it does now.
Taking nothing away from your result! You matched Luke on a stage or two, and came close on others, and Luke's another person who should have FWDs down pat. You finished with a 99.9% straight car and finished!

I think we will need to bring in a weight penalty system for you, a couple of hundred kilo's should fix you up.
Great result, and good to see everyone through with minor troubles.
Isn't the next run at Yarraman on the 11th?

Yep, but that's just a club rally, not an excel or clubman round etc. The next round of the series will be Jimna on the 8th Nov.

On behalf of Allan Griffin I'd like to thank Justin for those 4 Bolts that got Allan through scrutineering and able to compete.
He then went on to win his class. (Classic).
Thanks again.

A new set of results just got emailed out with penalties that weren't applied at the presentation...
We moved up a place to 2nd outright clubman, but closer to home first FWD and first Hyundai! :hyper:
Hard luck Kent, like I said, I think the timing of the event worked against you on this one mate... :(

For those that are interested, I've uploaded a bit of in-car from the weekend. The same stage during daylight and dark.
Be warned, the night stage includes a bit of Alan's "chuckling" from about 5:30.

Indeed I do, but at 15-odd minutes I doubt I'll upload it anywhere. I could perhaps burn a DVD or two...
