At the last two events i have had a problem where the dipstick has "popped" out (I assume due to pressure in the sump) resulting in engine oil spraying around the engine bay and onto the exhaust.
At Narooma I think it occurred on a long uphill where i was revving at over 6000rpm for a couple of minutes as my Nav made a comment about smelling oil smoke.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Yeah our dead single cam did that, caused by excessie blowby on Number 4,
but also caused oil being pumped through the breather back into the intake at high rpm.

Nope. Never had that problem and mine's usually stting aroung the 6k rpm mark.....might be worth doing a compression check.

Sounds like you are getting some blow by or may have a faulty crankcase valve. You can try to put in a relief port like I did in my engine to stop any pressure build up. If you put a whole the size of a tennis ball through the side of the cylinder through to the outside of the block, it generally doesn't build up any pressure.
