Thought you might like to see the aftermath of a timing belt failure due to poor servicing. Best you start changing those belts. Cheers

OUCH! That would be slightly annoying...:splat:...Sorry to see the aftermath of such an event.

Is that a valve head I can see embedded in the piston top?

Does anyone know the factory interval for timing belt replacement?

We'll be pulling the engine out to complete our build so I think I've just added another item to the list, may as well do it when the donk is out... better safe than sorry...

Thanks for the heads up...

Yes it is the head of a valve imbeded in the top of the piston there is also huge chunk of the block missing and the sump is full of melted piston. The motor had done 280K and judging by the crap in the head bolts hadn't seen a service or clean oil for years--hence the failure.
Belts should be changed every 4 years or 60K as we are giving our excels heaps I'd be changing every xmas. Btw the motor came out of my green excel from the wreckers body was good but needed another engine. Moral of this story is if you want a good body buy a car from the wreckers or auctions with a blown motor if want want good mechanicals buy an accident damaged car as it was going at the time---I brought one of each.
