John I couldn't agree more and I trust and hope that both you and JohnC have not suffered the effects of the fires. Talk on the HRA group is of a large donation to those affected that would be noticed by the community at large. It was also upseting to hear that long time Ralliest Dick Denvil has lost his house/possesions and cars in the fire at Flowerdale. Maybe we can do something?????

This has been a terrible weekend and the worst is that in our area the fire was deliberately lit. I'm sitting writing as the images of the last two days are keeping me awake. In the CFA I usually go out and fight fires and you do the best you can and move on we did this last weekend up at Boolarra and Yinnar. Today however I escorted a Police team through to map destroyed houses and search for lost people. Unfortunately in our sector we found eight deceased people. Two of these where good friends. From our house we looked across to the fires which were burning only a kilometer away and could see the plumes of black smoke when a house went up.
All out CFA modeling for worse case scenario fire behaviour was based on the 1939 Black Friday fires this fire burnt the same area as the Black Friday fires in our area but in 1/4 of the time all we could do was look on, it simply couldn't be stopped.
As for the people responsible I just want them caught, don't care what they do with them just want this to stop. This has been going on now for at least 15 seasons and we know it is a community member we just don't know who. For those others out there who are being impacted by their own fires, stay safe. Let the house burn but don't leave late, if you know a fire is in your area and you reckon you might leave for gods sake don't wait until you see flames. I can gaurantee it is too late by then, we found one couple today who's house is completely OK they left a note on their door saying they had evacuated. When they didn't come back today we checked registers and realised they hadn't got to any evaculation points. About 3 pm a dozer driver thinks he found them in their burnt out car about 4 k from their house up a burnt out bush track. If it is too late to run stay in the house wait till the fire front goes past then get out and put out the spot fires. The noise will tell you the fire has passed. If the house starts burning move away from the burnt part of the house toward a exit, stay low. Chances are if you can't stay in the house anymore the fire will have already passed. Get out of the house and onto burnt ground it will be hot it will be noisy but eventually the noise will go away and you will be OK. Stay safe folks :grouphug: we still have plenty of fire season left so lets look after each other and hope we can get out and enjoy the bush rather than fear it.

Thanks John that was pretty close and your experience with the police and the fire victims is very sobering. being located in Golden Plains Shire we are fortunate that the nearest scrub is a fair way away but we still have to be cognizant of the dangers of grass fires--Streatham in the late 70's comes to mind.
From the Hra group John C has reported that he is OK.
The upcoming events.Geo Woods and Cerberus Stages Look very shaky at the moment. Keep Safe Peter P
