Hi All
At last night's SA Rally Panel meeting, some discussion was held on Rally of South Australia. This is calendared to be held on the 11th and 12th of August, 2007. This is round 4 of the ARC and round 3 of the SARC.
It was advised that the Clerk of Course was looking into a "clubman" component for the event and incorporating the Hyundai's. If we can push this and I would be hoping to push it to achieve the similar sort of entry fee as the "introductory" component of Rally of Canberra ($450 entry fee, 2 days competition), would there be many interstate Excels (and local) willing to enter the event?
If this all happens, Ethan and I will be more than willing to help all with their travel and accomodation arrangements and anything else we can do to help make your trip easier. This would be great exposure to help the SA Series!
Kind regards

Have to check with Bronni but at that price it would be great to come over and have a bit of fun, as well as participating in the Rally. Our next event after that would be the Rally Sprint, and the VRC round will not be till October. leaving a gap from July. Is this a firm date? and what would be the approximate full cost if you couldn't get the discounts?

Work is now talking about sending me to melbourne for possibly a few months about that time of year. So if something like that was on I may be able to organise to bring my car down and then take it across. I would love to do the event but that is also the same weekend as Coffs, which has brilliant roads, but that is a long way from Melbourne.:(...... Its all too confusing.

Hi All
Yes, the date is firm as they had to put it in place for the ARC calendar etc etc and unfortunately, it is the same weekend as Coffs.
From the February Panel Meeting discussions, the SA Rally Panel made the following entry fee recomendations to the Rally of SA Clerk of Course for the entry fees:
- SARC Registered $750.00
- SARC Registered (first time driver) $850.00
- SARC Not Registered $950.00
- SARC Not Registered (first time driver) $850.00
- ARC Entry as per other rounds I would assume
Now, these were only recomendations made and are subject to change but this gives you an idea of the ballpark figures.
I will pursue the matter with the Clerk of Course in relation to a "clubman" style component and keep you updated as we go on the matter.
Kind regards

Dave, if you are in Victoria around August, there will be a Vic round on 28 July - George Derrick Memorial Rally, held just north of Traralgon in Gippsland (2 hr from Melbourne) and also Mt Porepunkah Rallysprint on 8 Sept, held up near Bright.
Don't forget the Alpine on 24 November, but I guess it's too close to National Capital for the NSW people, all Excels are welcome at the Alpine.

When I find out an exact date I will check for an event and will drag the car down if feasible.

Well, Lisi is off to talk to the TROSA organisers tomorrow so will let you all know what the outcome is.
But what i would like to know is, how could i make things easier for you guys to come over here? Would finding a suitable service team that could look after a few cars be an idea? That way, only need for 1 maybe 2 extra crew to come over. Find cheap accomodation for all the excel entries? Possible stya in the same place, add a sticker to every car to get cheap accomodation. Organise a promo the day before in the main street?
Im open to realistic offers to help people out. I would like the series to grow.
Cheers
Ethan

Hi All
I spoke with the Clerk of Course for Rally of SA earlier today. His first sentence in the conversation was “How many Excels can I have and how do we get them here?” That was a fantastic way to get started! :D It was also commented that there is potential to make this a national round – perhaps something we can look into further down the track.
Basically, the regulations for the whole event are being put together and should be ready to present at the next SA Rally Panel meeting which will be held on Monday the 16th of April. This is when the final discussions will take place about entry fees and things like that. At this meeting, I would like to give some further indication on how many Excel’s would be potentially interested in this event and would come over. I would also like to present the discussions we have on how to make it easier for the interstate travelers to attend etc.
Obviously, we would like to make this as painless as possible for all concerned. The idea of a “clubman” style component with a lower entry fee was discussed. Other ideas which could work are that for a slightly higher fee (but lower than the state championship component), tow money could be arranged. Does anyone have any other suggestions I can present? Perhaps we could organise to have Ed in an Excel again if possible for a highlight?
There should be plenty of opportunities to have the car in front of spectators and other competitors to give your sponsors real value for money at this event as well.
I would be most grateful if when you have your next gathering in the respective states of all the Excel competitors or sending out of communication, you could send out this proposed idea for Rally of SA. I would like to include all the Excel competitors we can make contact with.
This may be a good opportunity for the likes of Emma Cugley who is showing real potential to get out into the viewing of the wider public etc. It may be valuable for her and others who have just as much potential.
Kind regards

I think you have a numberof issues here.
1.. Steps to take for this years event of which I would have loved to have done it but as it clashes (or nearly clashes now as Coffs has moved) it becomes very difficult for NSW people to get there. If they all agreed to change COffs for SAARC then I would be there for sure, but I don't see that happening. Its ashame as when I saw the event details last year, I thought I would love to run it this year, but the clash is hard:(. If Coffs was canned I would be there whether it was an excel round or not (work permitting) as I would love to do it.
For next year and on, I personally would be keen to support it as a venue for a National title, but we have to talk to everyone about how we are going to do this, but it is a very logical choice, especially if WA starts a series.
As for what makes it attractive to get to. For me personally it would just be a cheap entry fee as other things I can control. I can tow the car there (I would drive it if I had to), I have relatives to stay at, or get a cabin or cheap accomodation somewhere, etc etc. But the entry fee is out of my control, so the cheaper the better. If it was $500- or less then that would be awesome. Maybe we could get some sponsorship to help pay entries for the excels, as there could be TV coverage involved, probably likely to.

You'd think the NSW calendar would have worked around the ARC calendar to accommodate drivers that do both. Maybe that's why Paul is running in the Vic State Championship instead of NSW so he can do both.

Personally, I would have loved to come to SA for the ARC, however a few things have conspired against it happening this year, Not the least of which is the proximity to our Coffs round.
The Coffs Harbour round was not originally a round of the NSW state series, it got upgraded when the Port Macquarie round fell over. It also originally clashed directly with the SA ARC. Also unlike Victoria, the NSW series is not directly aligned with the NSW state series, events have been chosen from state and clubman events based on $$$ value, attempting to avoid the driving suit rules & road quality.
Coffs is now a round of both the NSW and QLD State series and it is important that we have a good Excel turn out to hopefully build some more interest in Excels as an alternative to pocket rocket in QLD.
It was the Excels competing at Bega which cemented the idea of a series for Victoria.

Hi Everyone
Just touching base to see if there is any more interest/people unable to attend TRoSA?
Speaking with David yesterday, we may have our SA Excel running around at the event which will be great to see! :hyper:

Can non South Aussies enter the clubman at $695 or can I enter with a S/A co driver? At the lower entry fee I might be interested.

G'Day John. Pretty sure you need to be bonafide SA resident. Not happy about that as we were trying to get a "cheap cheap" entry and what we proposed, they ran with and mucked it all up! Will investigate and let you know about the SA Co-Driver bit!

My understanding from the supp regs is that interstate crews would need to enter the SARC section at $895.

Last night it was confirmed at the SA Rally Panel Meeting, the 'bonafide' SA Resident to comply with the Clubman section must be the entrant of the vehicle.

Thats ashame. NSW ARC will have a $590- entry fee for a 200 comp km rally over 2 days including a dinner for 2 etc, but as a seperate event. I think thats more along the lines of what you guys sought, but maybe next year.
If we are to ever do an excel title at something like that they would have to make some sort of deal similar to the NSW one.
If you have a National Company that has a regional office in SA and they enter a car that is registered in NSW or Victoria but the Driver is a SA resident do you
1. Get the cheap Clubman entry
2. Have to have a fire bomb

IMHO, as the Regional Office is the entrant/pays the bills, then they would comply with the Clubman entry, especially with the Driver being an SA resident. The registration bit will not be an issue at all. As the entrant is local to SA and the driver is local to SA, we can pass it off as being the "home event" and a firebomb should not be required in that instance.
Hehehe... Ethan and I would love to be that driver! Hehehe... Our Rally Panel would not dare to argue with us!!!
Back being serious, we are still thinking of ways to try and get something to work. Even if I can get a proposal on paper to see something beneficial for next year.

Pretty much along those lines but hoping the entry would be cheaper than that a smidge as well. We thought even if we could get the entry down to $300 and perhaps did Friday night special stages and all of Saturday that may be appealing to some. It was mentioned that the C of C for RoSA is not keen to "run events within events" but I think it still warrants a wack at a proposal.
I am keen to run with a title as you suggested at Bega, Dave (not fussed where). Would be interested to help put something together if you needed a hand or someone to do it (not that I have done anything like that before but happy to give it a go).
