Hi, just bought an Excel for my 13yr old to race. He has a Gemini at present but kids being kids are never happy with what they have, or maybe he got that from me.
Anyway he started stripping it out yesterday for the cage build. Is there any specifics I should do with the cage ? I'd like to build it properly in case he still has the car when he can compete in a real rally.
Also wheels ? Do we stay with 13in or go 14 or 15 ?
If you are going to eventially run in the Excel series then you need to check the regs as far as cage material is concerned. My opinion is that you should spend some time ensuring that the front end geometry stays where it should
by reinforcinging the rails etc,
Bean sells a kit with all the correct plates.
Wheels are again about intentions, Excel series cars run 13's tyres are about $185 for the Dunlop. Some of the P2 Excel's are running 15's. Be careful of the rolling diametre though, the bigger the diametre the worse the gearing will bee. There are plenty of second hand 15's about.
Cheers Mick

Just build a cage that is steel and meets CAMS requirements. You don't need it to khana, motorkhana, supersprint etc but if you are then check out the CAMS Manual www.camsmanual.com.au (http://www.camsmanual.com.au)
The excel is a very quick (competitive) khana and motorkhana car.

Thanks for the replies. The car is all stripped out now ready to build the cage. Anyone got pics of what to reinforce around the front end. Which bits break or move ? Thanks
