Hi,
does anyone have any suggestions in terms of changing the steering ratio on a 98 X3 excel (non PS model) to a quicker ratio?
Im not sure what others think, but for me it feels lazy almost as if im driving a luxobarge :)

Why don't you just get a Power Steer system. Are you going to rally this in the series? If so read the rules before you go much further you can't change master cylinders and muck around with the steering ratios the rules are quite specific on that sort of thing. You either have power steering or non power steer not a hybrid.

Wont be taking part in the Rally series, wanting to build it as a weekend circuit car.
What options do I have then re PS systems?

Check out this link Dave has been racing them for a while and is very knowledgeable on the whole subject, this forum is for the people doing rallying in the Hyundai series and as we don't do the mucking around with the cars you want to do maybe you should up with the circuit racing fraternity:

The non power steering rack is 4 turns lock to lock while the powersteering rack is 3 turns so it is significantly quicker with or without power assistance.
It bolts straight up but you need the brackets from the ps rack as it is broader at one end than the non ps rack.

Power Steering rack is now in without pump and it feels pretty good just driving it on the road so far. A lot more direct.
