Just wondering if many people are looking to moving into I30's? What class would they go in (I know they would be walk up winner for the ECO class in the HDI version). I would have thought the upcoming I20 would be a better deal same motor smaller car.

I really don't think te I30 is the answer for life after Excels. There are plenty of Accents or Getz in the market place and their getting cheaper every day.

Yes the I20 maybe in 5 to 8 years time but we don't even have the cars in the country yet and they keep pushing back the intro date with Oct-nov the proposed date ATM which is subject to change aswell. The Engine spec has not been confirmed either I believe.

The build cost of the i30 is much greater then the Excel with the suspension alone being double the Excels- you could buy an Excel. The cars are much heavier at around 1400kgs std not to mention the opportunity to buy a multitude of expensive tyres. Wot engines doo we run etc etc

Looks like I've talked myself out of the I30:spank:

Maybe I should keep the Excel anyone wanna buy a half complete I30 SR?:deal:

Could the cost of preparing a dirt car be the reason we are seeing more and more roll-caged "stock" road cars in Tarmac Rallys? Maybe you might need to look at Tarmac for the I30? They are fantastic events and attract great publicity. The cars are seen in daylight on public roads and to the public look stock (because some are!). I spent two days following round one of the Australian Tarmac Challenge here in Gippsland a month or so ago, given the event went for 4 days included lap sprints at Phillip Island Circuit, Holden's Lang Lang proving ground and a hill climb at Bryant Park (brand new Hill Climb Circuit) and only cost $1500 entry (including dinners) it represented good value and certainly attracted more publicity than the last ARC round in Victoria 2 years ago. What was really interesting was the cars, many didn't even have cages (not required) and had little spent on a showroom car, yet the publicity they got was fantastic. Watch out for the NSW round get the I30 out to it and get some exposure have some fun. What I spend on getting an Excel rally car going now I could buy another old Ralliart Magna stick a cage in it some Advans and go tarmac hunting at over 220kph.... does make you think.

i think tarmac is so popular as the many mid life crisis porsche GT3 owners can show off their $300k cars without getting them dirty

Why is it popular? lots of reasons there wasn't many 300k anythings in the Tarmac Challenge, most where showroom class cars, lots of VS - VY Commodore V8's etc. Given that when it rains it is usually a Lancer that wins and then it is usually a EVO IX (driven by a dirt rally driver) no advantage in the big HP RWD, in fact a quick FWD will probably be a advantage. No I think it comes down to what gives sponsors bang for buck and competitors cheap entry. If all you have to do to have a go is cage it and race, on public roads in public view people like it.

How many times have you been at a speci point and heard people complain about the dust, lack of toilets no where to buy a cuppa..... I mean it goes on and on? I remember the Tweed Speed Trials and people sitting sipping coffee which tarmac cars whizzed by, Burnie Tarmac Challenge is the same the crowds come out cause the cars go through the middle of the towns. In Bega people came out when it was on shire roads accessable and close to town where were they this year? The further we go bush the further we get away from the publicity the sport so richly deserves, we need to have tarmac rallies as part of the mix or more town based super stages, rally in valley attracted thousands to Traralgon when it had a super stage. Probably time to split the thread.
