Hi all,
Went out to spectate on the George Derreck on the weekend - first time at a rally since 2005, and noticed that there was a few Excel's being punted. Thought that might be a good way to go rallying.
Just spent the last two nights reding just about every bloody post on this board, and the interest level is up. So to find out more about the series and the people involved, I thought I might see about slotting my largish behind in the silly seat if someone needs a nav for one of the remaining rounds...
A bit of my history
Competitor - Classic Rally (WA) 1993, 94, 96 & 97
Basically a touring assembly with stick map, average speed, farmer brown type navigations and some short sprints and hillclimbs. Liasons route charted.
Course Car Group Rally Australia (WA) Yes the WRC round.
Advance 3 - 1996 to 1999
Moving assets (i.e FIV, ambulance etc ) to stage starts, mid points. All route charted.
Course Info 3 - 2000 - 2003
Running as first car on the course. Setting clocks, running stage teams through book in and start proceedures. Checking stage for safety, Running about 30 mins before 000. All route charted, 60km/h to 80km/h average speeds on stage.
Classic Adelaide 2004
All tarmac rally. Pace noted. Bought organisers pace notes and completed Recce (3 passes per stage) to amend notes prior to the rally.
SEARC Rally Mt Gambier 2005 (SA State Championship)
Pace noted from scratch. Competed in an ex Steve Winward XR6 Falcon. If memory serves me correctly I think we were 3rd in class and 12th outright at the end of the event.
I also have experience as a driver in circuit sprints, hillclimbs and club level rallies in both FWD & RWD cars.
Late thirties, St Kilda based, likes a beer and has a SO that would like to be involved as well. The aim is if the experience gained from co driving means that the series looks like 'a good thing', then I'll be looking to build a car for 2009.
If I sound like someone who would be good to tell you were to go and what time to be there, feel free to send an email to stuart.diggins (at) gmail.com
Cheers,
Stuart.
