The conversion is very simple and thankfully the parts all come off 1 donar car.

The bits needed come from a J1 Hyundai Lantra Levant which came with ABS.
From what I was told though there were not many of them produced here in Aus.

My excel has 15" wheels on them and they clear easily.. I would say you need 14" minimum maybe you can get away with 13's but i doubt it. I will measure it all up when I have the wheels off.

What you need off the Lantra is:

Rear Hubs
Caliper
Caliper Bracket
Handbrake Cables

The only fabrication you have to do is swop the handbrake brackets on the calipers from left to right and they have to be bent slightly so that the cable runs clear of the strut.

Here are some pics of the install:

The only thing I havent done was refit the handbrake cables..
I'll hopefully complete that soon :)

Thanks Bevan,
looks the goods, Did you change the fronts also?

Does the J1 Lantra have the same stud pattern as an Excel?

Guess it doesn't really matter if bigger wheels are need to go over the brakes.

Bevan,

How does the pedal feel with the rear discs?
Is a change in the brake-master clinder size required too?

I havent changed the fronts yet, I will be changing them to the Tiburon front brake setup
which also means the discs will be non captive as apposed to the captive setup on the excel now. I've got some 4 pot calipers that I'll be using on the fronts.

The J1 lantra has the same stud pattern as the excel yes :)

Pedal feels the same as what it did with the drums, the brake bias has changed slightly as its much easier to lock up the rears under very hard braking.
I didnt change the master cylinders yet as Im in the process of changing the entire brake setup which includes non captive discs up front(298mm Dia, 35mm wide), 4 pot calipers and a Tilton pedal box.
