Now that people have been running the Ecels for a while, which one seems to be the preference? (and why?)

Wish the Excel series had of started before I got the Laser as it would have been a better way to go - and much less expensive!

Hi Kent,

I think it's commonly accepted that the twin cam is the preference, but there's not much in it, so a well driven single cam is still competitive.

If it's a case of getting into and Excel or not, then just use whatever is available. If you've got a cheap single cam then go for it. It's relatively simple to swap engines later.

As for the Laser, I'm sure you could build an Excel with the proceeds from the sale of the Laser and get maybe 5 times as many rally miles out of it per dollar. That's the main reason I love the Excel. It allows me to do as many rallies as possible, and in the end that's more important to me than outright results....though we've had a few good outright results too.

That's what I'm starting to think as well - in all honesty the Laser really needs a more talented driver to match it's potential - and it's certainly got plenty of potential.

If anyone decides that they have outgrown their Excel and want to get into a quicker car then we can discuss deals for a swap.
