As its so quiet on the forum I just cant resist--
Re the EGS the question is Who's NOT going????
RE the BP 45 entries are going to take place in a true rallying adventure some 1600k's in 4 days. To keep all those competing honest including our very own Davetrees JD,Speedy John Moore and my self will be on hand at no less than 4 controls. We start at Benalla at 0700 Friday morning and will greet the surviving crews as they finish the first division which started Thursday evening.
Division 2 takes crews and officials from Benalla to Swan Hill. Saturday divisions 3/4 run from Swan Hill to Ballarat via the Mallee.
Now thats what you call an event:clap: It is a life changing event for all those participating who come away with memories and stories that last for ever.
Hopefully some more Excelians will turn up and enjoy this fabulous event:clap: which may not be run again for many a year.

Well after some 1300k's and 4 controls in last weekend's BP I'm ready for the EGS :lmao: Now looking at the provisonal starting order JC and his team are running together with the obvious team orders not to overtake the Boss.
It is great to see that as a group we make up almost a 1/4 of the field and hopefully some will get up into the top 10.
Its been a long time [for some] since the last event so it should be a very entertaining weekend allround.
Goodluck to everyone Regards Grumbo

...
I heard "he" has in-car radio to the other team cars and is pace noting the event as he goes through, could just be rumor, but I know some people will do anything to try and keep their sponsors happy:lmao: I bet it's a while since he has been called a novice too? Maybe there should be an "Old hand" section?
It really does look like a great field and some exciting new comers in Steven and Daniel ready to have a good go. Also good to see Mick has managed to find a decent navigator.
Role on the weekend!

My tatics are to get Stewie to tick the cars off as we pass them other than that I think it was Portmans quote "First you have to finish to win" that will be firmly in my mind and the fact that I have not driven since the Alpine.
Good luck to everyone and truly great to see such a large field, lets see if we can do better at Eden.:grouphug:

AH pity its not the Derrick this weekend as the BP spent some considerable time in the Avoca area--as did I. Re the Seniors Cup I've already had 1300K's of practice:potstir: pity theres no sand in the EGS I certainly had great fun out at Bronzewing depositing JD near the sand traps for some of his excellent photos. Will be great to see a squadron of excels taking off into the unknown.

Wow!
Who would have thought that you could just turn old enough to get your licence to drive on the road, build a low horsepower rally car for under $10,000, borrow a navigator and enter your second rally and first state championship round and finish in the top 10 outright! Well done Steven!
I think we all suspected Steven may have had the goods after his first rally and he certainly delivered. Well done!
He doesn't say a lot, but he probably had trouble getting words out past his huge smile. I know I'm preaching to the converted, but what a great series this is, certainly shows what you can do with self confidence and a bucket load of talent. Certainly put a lot of higher budget more experienced competitors to shame.
From my point of view it was our best rally ever, we certainly drove as good as we could and a lot better than we have in the past; sure there were some corners we could have done better but there was also a lot of corners we could have done worse, so I'm happy we did a few a bit slower rather than a few too fast.
The rally itself started with a insanely rough and rocky road which had our sump guard scraping all the way. The rest of the rally had quite a smattering of rough roads and big protruding rocks throughout. Overall, eight of the ten stages were extremely fast with quite a few uphill stages. (I'm sure one was almost vertical!). I was assuming that the Excels would get hosed by all and sundry, but I can only assume the stability of the Excels in high speed corners gave us all an unexpected advantage. The roads were nicely wet in and had great amounts of grip, a lot more than my brain thought anyway and we spent the bulk of the rally in third and even hit nearly the top of fourth in a night stage, what a buzz.
It was a great turnout of Excels with Steven, Michael, Peter and Daniel all having their first drive in the series. Poor Daniel and Matt, who started the car behind Steven and were also in their second rally, may have been a bit disheartened during the rally if they were using Steven's times as a benchmark but they did a great job and finished a credible 32nd in the day stages, (heat 1) and up to 25th for the night stages (heat 2) to finish 27th outright.
Michael, who has been nav'ing for his partner Fiona in the Excel for the last 3 years, stepped into the drivers seat and while taking a few stages to get used to driving a FWD, managed to set a fastest Excel time in the night stages. Hopefully he'll get the bug, (and a nav) and do the rest of the season.
Peter, (aka Grumblebum), who had been threatening to enter an Excel series round for a while, managed to draft Tyler in to nav for him and made the trip from the western side of Victoria to East Gippsland only to blow and engine on stage 2; I imagine from rocks in the first stage possibly breaking the oil pick up, but we will have to wait and see. Peter assures me there should be some good you tube footage of them coming into the first spectator point.
Ged ran a good race and tamed his demons after rolling at the East Gippsland Stages last year to finish 19th outright and 4th Excel. I must admit to feeling dismayed as we headed into the last stage and over the first crest to see Ged waving a safety triangle at me and with car parked off the side of the road. My first thoughts were nooo, you were so close! but it wasn't Ged's off but a car in front had rolled on to its roof and blocked the track.
20 seconds in front of Ged was Danny and Ricki-Lee, who after being 2sec in front of Peter and Sue at the end of the day stages, managed to jump Peter and Sue as well as Ged and Mahra to finish 18th outright and 3rd Excel, even after saying that he really wasn't a night rally person and wasn't enjoying it at all. I wonder what he could have done if he did enjoy it?
I'm sure team Gunnawyn will have their feedback, but from what I know, the boss, (aka the mayor, aka JohnC) managed to pop a tyre on one of the first stages, Kimberley had an intermittent battery terminal and Daniel had a trouble free run?? I'm sure they'll let us know.
Our personal thanks to all the organisers and officials, the local footy club for putting on a great spread and to whoever organised the rain 2 days before hand and then followed up with a perfect sunny day and beautiful dust free night.
Also a big thanks to all our sponsors, Scott from Bendigo Tyre Centre for all his help, Norm and the boys from Bendigo Specialist Brake and Clutch as well as the continued seemingly limitless support from Hyundai.
Thank you all.

Nicest around the RH hairpin in SS3 was Danny Hudswell........tipped it in early and a nice oversteer exit!
Most of the others (with the exception of Ged!) showed a lot of understeer!
