View Full Version : RallySchool Training Day
Michael Ryan

When asked what the competitors wanted from the Rallyschool in 2010, the answer came back, being training and promotion.
So get your planner out.
Sunday July 18, a Rallysprint at Awaba. In Conjunction with the rallysprint, I will have an international standard driver and co-driver (both regular instructors of mine) to help the excel guys on the day.
The plan is for Brendan Reeves to sit with each of you for a run, giving you feedback on driving technique, Then drive the car (as '0') on a run, to demonstrate some stuff to you and give you some feedback on the car.
Rhianon Smyth will be there, she will sit with each of you on a run, calling the pace notes. By having the notes called at the right time, it will really help re-enforce the value of good co driving.
I will have mechanic here on the day, available to help make some small changes to the car set-up, feel the difference maybe only 10mm of ride height makes.
If you can make it the night before, or you plan to come saturday evening to join us for dinner, you can be sure the discussion will set the tone for the day.:grouphug:
Rallyschool will pay the entry fee for the rallysprint for NSW Excel drivers (one per car), and so you will also get to measure how you go against your own times, and your competitors.
Not to be missed,
list you questions below, or call me on 0429 487 775...Mick Ryan

Fantastic, thanks Rallyschool!
Will I be able to run my car if I havent had the rollcage logbooked by then? (Edit - sorry - just noticed this will be part of the Rallysprint, so I'm guessing not?)
And, stupid out of towner question....where abouts is Awaba?

Damo,
Awaba is just south of Toronto NSW, near lake Macquire. If you were coming Sydney along the F3 take the Toronto exit head toward Toronto about 5 to 8k along there is a bridge over the railway line Take the next left intersection you will head back under the bridge about .5k SO then sharp left about 2k on the right is Awaba park. It is about 15 min from my place I will see if I can get out to have a look. Car is still in bits..

After only getting half way to the Victorian test day late last year (owing to failure of the alternator in my HiAce), I'm VERY keen to come along.
This requires me to pull my finger out to get the HEMP back in order sooner than I expected - the rear bumper is still dangling off cable ties after Safari and the LHF strut seems to need servicing.

Mick, this sounds interesting and I'd like my son to be involved. He is 14 and has an excel, its fitted with cage, seats, harnesses and rally tyres. Is he able to do a rallysprint? He has a cams licence and has competed in motorkhana events since he was 12. He hasn't been in much lately as he broke his collar bone a couple of months back racing BMX. What do I have to do to get him there ? Thanks Mark

To enter the event, you will need to have the relevent paperwork for the multiclub sprint, so he wont have that.
It is possible, after the event, we may be able to do some driving with him, that would need to be under my insurance, and The club would need to be ok with that. I cannot speak for them, but i think they are pretty good guys, so that should be fine. Since you are not paying entry fee, the intention to join their club would be a good thing to do.
(This is not the can of worms opening, this would be depending on time, track condition, traffic back to sydney, Westlakes club being cool, and because only because of his age, he could not take part in the event proper).

sounds good think I'll come for sticky beak & bring my camera
I ain't got a rally car & even if I was allowed to enter my Patrol(haha) I don't have a cams licence so won't be able to enter the event anyway.
I only live 20 mins away from awaba wac park, will check to see if swmbo has anything planned on the calender.
oh & what time do we need to be there?

Hey Mick,
I intend to be there. The LHF front strut is ready to go back in and then I have to pull the RHF out, disassemble it to replace the rubber bump stop (the one in the LHF had disintegrted) and then put it back in.
I don't have a tow vehicle sorted at this stage so I might have to register the HEMP and drive it there and back (provided that I don't bin it on the day).
And do you know whether I can camp in the grounds Sat night?

"I broke it!"
Instructions for servicing the struts is missing details about the procedure for removing the strut insert from the housing body and it bled oil everywhere. I have no chance of getting it fixed in time for the weekend.
So, unless someone is as crazy as an unnamed person from Vic and offers me a drive in their car, I am out. :(
Please send me a PM ASAP if you consider yourself sufficiently crazy.

Really looking forward to this. I've had a really rough couple of weeks, and a bit of rally action is just what I need to take my mind off things.
New exhaust went in today. Have to do my CV boots tomorrow and should be a go!
Bring it on!!
Thanks Mick for organising this. Only wish we could have got more guys there.
Paulie and I double entered in the Vomitron. Looking forward to this weekend, so much so I might even look at the car tomorrow night and try to pump up the tyres or something.
Thanks to Mick from Rallyschool.com.au for being such a champion.
Anyone know where I can get the new "Rallyschool.com.au" windscreen banner for the car?

Kornel has come to the rescue at the 11th hour - he is allowing me to use his car.
Fortunately, rego is not required for this event.
I checked with Darren (event secretary) and there were some places left as at 11:00 today. He has reserved spots for both Kornel and me so it's all a goer for us!!!
See you Sunday!

I have been stuck at work all week but looks like I will be able to get away from about 6 or 7pm tonight which means I am coming up there tomorrow.
Problem 1 is that I will have my kids. Is anyone else here taking kids that we could hang with so that when I go for a run they have someone around. My kids are 6 and 10 and are pretty good girls.
Problem 2 is that car has not been of trailer since Taree finish but apart from strut top bearings which will cope, I once again need to borrow an idle stepper motor as I still haven't received one from Mick (you think someone would throw all their family holidays away for rallying LOL).
probably have to leave around 4 in the morning but I think will be totally worth it to learn how to drive.
I will struggle to get back onto the internet until about 6 or 7 tonight so if someone can help probably best to post it here to let others know and if possible send me an sms message please so I can work things out.
Thanks in advance for all considerations
