EXCEL PRACTICE DAY!! Sunday 15th August: Bagshot, (Bendigo)
Hi All,
Sorry for the late notice but if anyone is interested in attending an Excel rally training day please let me know.
At this stage I have spoken briefly to Nathan Reeves, (Currently leading the Victorian Championship) and we are also hoping to have others come and teach us a bit about pace noting and writing notes as well as the usual driving tips.
Event is still sketchy at this stage but let me know if you are interested so I can get some regs drawn up and accepted in time.

Sue and I plan to be there. It would be good if the pace note training involved some hands on tuition around a test loop, ie. use as much of the tracks as is practical at Bagshot and get the experts to do a recce with us showing us how to make the notes.

Hi Tony,I will definately try and be there, the pace note tuition sounds great and if I can drag Rikki-Lee away from study-netball-dance-boyfriends and partys she will be there as well.Cheers Danny.
I'm interested to pop down to Victoria for this event... but will depend on work commitments.

News just in; it appears that Nathan's brother and sister, (Brendon Reeves and Rhiannon Smyth) will be coming to give us a hand as well.
Fro it'd be great to have you along if you can make it. It is posible to camp at the circuit if this makes it easier too.
stu, have you done much pace noting?

I am interested in heading down to Mexico for this one too. Especially since there is a break in the events through to Oct, plus I only got about half-way to Bagshot last year whan the alternator in my van packed it in.
Just a case of finishing off the Jackaroo, selling it and getting a reliable tow vehicle.

Operation dust off will be happening this weekend, replacing all the brakes (rotors, pads, rear shoes, drums, and basically anything to do with braking) this weekend in preparation for Phillip Island. Surely pulling 163.2km/h down the main straight will blow the remainder off!!!!

Thanks to Tony for this.
Training days in 2 states within a month, how good is this Excel Series!
With all this activity, the training, the meetings, the friendship in the various Excel Series throughout Australia, it is no wonder that the Excel Series is now the leading series in the country. In Victoria there are now more Hyundai Excel's competing in the Victorian Rally Championship than Subaru's (of all types), we are now 25%+ of the field, with 10 - 11 at an event normal, with a pool of about 15 or more cars out there. Pretty good for funny little Korean cars that people used to laugh at when we said we were going to rally them. We now have great support from Hyundai, CAMS, Organisers and rallying in general. If we continue to build on this enthusiasm, the National Event, Rally Victoria in November will he HUGE.

Wanted to make it to this, but too many other things on meant I'll miss it. Which is a bummer.

Hi all,
We have had a couple of late changes to the event instructors.
Unfortunately the Evans's and Rhianon Smyth are no longer available for the event. Brendon and Nathan Reeves will still be available for driving, and note taking instruction and thankfully we have had ARC navigator Matt Lee (past VRC Champion Co Driver)step up to the plate to give pace noting advice. For those that don't know, Matt co-drives for Justin Dowel in the Australian Rally Championship (ARC).
Along with the above, we also have ARC P2 class winner Leigh Garrioch, who has mountains of front wheel drive experience at ARC level along with plenty of navigating experience. Along with Leigh we have long time VRC competitor/co-driver Kevin Wilson. We are also hoping to have Nathan Reeves navigator Scott Spedding along.
And of course past Excel champions Ross and Scott Allen.
The weather up here has been good for the last couple of days so we should have a solid track with not much dust. So come one and come all and enjoy, talk, listen, look and see what the series is all about.
Cheers

Hope your Excel training day goes well up at Bagshot. And good to see plenty of Cerberus CC members helping you out.
Cerberus are running their round of the Vic Autocross Series on Sat 28th August at Melton. We've still got plenty of room for entries, all you Excellians are welcome and we'd be happy to score you guys as your own (unofficial) class within a class.
Supp Regs are on www.vicclubautocrossseries.com or I can email you a copy.
Cheers

A very big thank you to everyone who braved the elements and turned up to the training day
Special thanks go to the Training organizer Tony Moore assisted by Nikki- absolutely excellent job all round , Event secretary on the day Murray Mackenzie, Col Hardinge and all things Excel and scrutineer Dale Allen .
Written words of wisdom from Geoff Portman who was an apology .
What a great team of instructors - they gave up a Sunday roast & Family time to pass on hard earnt knowledge to eager students, Brendan Reeves and Matt Lee ably assisted by Nathan Reeves, Ross & Scott Allen, Kevin Wilson and Ken Garrioch
All superbly photographed by John Doutch who at one stage looked very much the same colour as the cars he was taking photos of.
The Bendigo Car Club for the use, once again of their great facility and the members who helped out on the day.
Lastly to all the Excellians that turned and took part or helped.
Thank you one and All.
Don't wait too long to get that mud off your equipment. I spent 3 hours yesterday under the Reece Sant Fe from Rally Qld with a pressure washer.
Today theres a vibration in the drive line somewhere, I guess i missed some mud on the drive line:slap:
Looks like it was the most fun you could have in victoria yesterday, hope you guys don't get the mud advantage come rally Victoria in November!!!:attack:

Well we had a cold and wet pace noting training day on Sunday with instruction and advice from Nathan and Brendon Reeves, Matt Lee, Ross and Scott Allan, Ken Garrioch and Kevin Wilson, (among others). With 10 Excel crews braving the weather to receive all the advice, I think they would all agree that they got a lot out of the day with many great tips to help refine their pace noting skills.
Many thanks to all the drivers and co-drivers that braved the weather to attend and a special thanks to Nathan, and Brendan Reeves, who are real naturals at passing on their knowledge and a special thanks to Matt Lee, who stepped in at the last minute, to fill the co-drivers trainers roll. Matt's delivery and explanations were exceptional and with tips from pencil and paper selection to note explanation and reading advice his delivery and advice was second to none. Thanks also to Dale, Ross and Scott Allan, for scrutineering, driver and navigator advice, Kevin Wilson for navigator advice and a good photo op for JohnD.
I will post up all the info from Brendon and Matt when I receive it.
Finally to Nikk for helping me run the day; JohnD for supporting the series with top notch photos, and, as always, a big thank you to John Carney, who's work ethic on the Excel series is staggering, always chasing, always finding, always fixing simply remarkable, (and I believe he does have a business to run on top of all this!)
Thanks
Tony
(And you all need to heed Mick's warning, Bagshot mud is only ever a few degrees centigrade away from becoming a brick, so if you haven't already washed it off, go and park in a puddle somewhere or take a week off work buy a hammer, chisel and a rotisserie)
