Hi all,
I need to do an exhaust rewamp for the Excel. The current one is still factory standard (two mufflers and cat converter), and sounds like developed a leak somewhere at the front.
Objectives – save a bit of weight, spend a bit of money, gain a bit of power.
I remember Glenn's recommendation not to go above 2".
Any other advice and recommendations on where to do it are welcome.
Read somewhere that exhaust manifold on Excels is prone to cracking. What is the best bet if that’s my case – repair / second hand / new manifold?

My opinion only and others may vary.
Manifolds are easy to replace and just replace them as needed with a second hand one.
Exhaust. Do you have full rego if so then you still need a cat and probably technically need one anyway for road use (I can check on that for you). My exhaust is cat back 2.25 inches mandrel bend although that may be a bit over kill. I think just ring around your local exhaust places and find someone to do a sports exhaust (which just means they make it up intsead of fitting one) with one muffler only in a 2 or 2.25 inch system. What you need is relatively cheap for exhausts as it is just some pipe bent up and one muffler.
There was a bloke (name skips me at the moment.. Craig somehting I think) that was big into rallying and had an exhaust workshop that has earned a good reputation for putting in good rally exhausts, such as tucking them up as high as possible so as not to get caught and ripped of or damaged by rocks, plus a decent flex joint so that it doesn't break or crack the manifold.

Thanks evryone for answers.
Dave, I have a rally rego. The post comes to mind (from BMSC forum?) which mentioned rally rego is exempt from emission regulations (NSW at least) - meaning cat is not compulsory?
Where to check the regulations?

Craig Stallard?
Thats it, I thought I was close. Anyway, with rally rego changing some time in the next year supposedly, it would be nice to know how they are going to sit with the rules. Having said that if you don't need it now (I have never used rally rego so have never kept up with the rules) don't put it in, as you could always add one back in later. I would just go straight to Craig and talk to him about it. Personally I would go 2.25 inch preferably, or 2 inch next. Some would go the other way. It needs a 10 inch chrome tip on the end to be fully sic though.

Craig did the exhaust on the sprinter and is of really good quality.
Mat's excel has the 10 inch chrome tip, but didnt make mat drive any faster.

Tip is not for speed but for fully sic points. My big tacho is of pretty well no use except if we do noise testing. I use the shift light but have the light in it turned of for night stages so as not to distract me. I just think it suits the image of the car which is why I need to repair my rear spoiler to get it back on the car, cause its fully sic.....
