Fuel Tank Protection
The fuel tanks is protected by attaching 3 layers of fibreglass matt to the bottom half of the tank. Care should be taken not to reinforce the area where the mounting bands run as this will make the tank to large to reinstall in the car or make the atank deform upsetting the fuel guage accuracy or worse yet the fuel pump pickup

G'day Whitey,
Firstly, apologies for resurrecting an old post...
Looking to glass up the fuel tank, what sort of thickness were you aiming for with the Fibreglass protection or what weight fibreglass matt(s) did you use?
I've seen a few people use a woven kevlar matt in their fuel tank protection (obviously this will add a few $$) - do you have any comments?
With respect to the mounting bands, it appears that you have applied only one or two layers of fibreglass matt in this area to avoid the obvious increase in the outside dimensions of the tank. Would you be able to overcome this issue by spacing out the tank mounting points?

Dirk, speak to Nathan, he can do you both a glass and a kevlar woven one like the on my car. We glassed up the whole tank, then used spacers to hold the straps out of the from the body because of the extra thickness, no biggy... Even the Kevlar woven ones will be cheaper than you think.

Already had a bit of a chat with Nathan, was just seeing what other people had done...
I priced some Kevlar matt and was pleasantly suprised to see that is was only about $29 /m2. This price was for a non-plain weave that would be better suited to draping over a fuel tank (i.e. it drapes better than the plain weave stuff)..
Will follow up with Nathan a little more once we've kicked off the cage install...
