Hey all
Now the big event is nearly here and sup regs are out, who is going to go. We should be able to get a huge field there which will be great and isn't it fantastic that others are so suprised about how we have the same prize money as outright. First 2wd gets $100- but first excel gets $500-.
Anyway it would be great if we could organise a time before the event that we could get all the cars together for a photo shoot. Some good PR for the series maybe.
So who is running. Is Mick finally going to come out. With the Southerners having so many, I think the Northerners will need all hands on deck to win this one.
So who is coming from what team. NSW just slipped over the line last year by a very narrow margin. Its going to be a good challenge.

The Budget and the time is available for Mathew and i to turn up,
it will depend on if we can get a service person or not,
Ben.

Don't worry about that, I am struggling to get that organised as well. We just need to find a few people around us to help out. Bega is good with the excels as you pass a few service stations on route where you fill up at  so then all you need is someone to have some tools nearby in case there is a problem. But that shouldn't happen as it is an excel.
(now touching lots of wood)
Bega
Luv e'm shire roads
Yes the HMCA Excel will be there plus the rent a crowd service crew. Guys don't not go because of lack of service crew- my guys will look after you if need bee.
We are staying out near Tathra on a Farm stay.
Now back to normal programing- Lithgow

Fazz and I will be there :)
Bega was the first event we finished together.... finally! (I must admit that it was very exciting waiting in the club for Mick's times to go up and knowing that we had the win!)
We took out the Excel Challenge last time, so it'll be game on again... can't wait :hyper:
Paul Batten will be hard to beat, he was setting some great times last year but sticking it off on the first (?) stage hurt him.
and lets not forget CrazyDave will have his license this time... won't you Dave :slap:
Lets hope the weather isn't quite so miserable this year
Oh and NSW for the win!

In that case yes we will be there :hyper:

NSW for the win!
As Anna said, we'll be there again with the speed turned up significantly since last year when we were in "finish at all costs" mode.
I'm not sure if Paul Batten will be coming, I heard that he wasn't because of the proximity of RoC which is a bit of a shame.
With a clear run, we should do well......besides, we've got the secret weapon.....HAGGERS! UNLEASH THE BEAST!
But yes, first things first...Lithgow...two more sleeps.
Cheers

Fellow denizens of dirt,
Haggers would love to be rampant at Bega (indeed he would love to be rampant anywhere, anytime - and generally is) and we are aiming for that. Of course, there is the minor problem of actually learning how to punt one of these beasts on dirt after all that rear end experience I am used to.....
We have the engine in and the front end all installed (ie drive shafts, sway bar etc etc) The tie rod ends bind on the sway bar and some lock conditions( I haven't seen how just yet but Bean has explained it to me late last night). It looks as though the stroke on the DMS is too long. I bought the same suspension as Glenn so I am buggered why there would be a problem and Bean has checked with Glenn and he doesn't have the same problem. I won't get a chance to squizz it until Sunday when I come back from Lithgow watching Glenn beat Ed.
Any ideas? Maybe they got the stroke wrong (if you get my technical meaning)

haggers i think they have changed the suspension slightly it is slightly longer then Glenns , as we had similar problems with our DMS
first get rid of the anti roll bars !!! for you will not need them.
you will also have to reroute the brake lines on the front to go straight down,
race brakes can help you out here, the only other problem is we have had is the rear tyres rubbing on the spring seat running with steelies, which was fixed with some wheel spacers.
Come see us at Lithgow, and we will explain all.
Ben.

Hey John,
It didn't affect the result. As each state team was made up of the highest seeded 5 cars. Unfortunately you were the lowest seeded Victorian so your placing didn't figure in the calculation.
Don't tell me you have been beating yourself up about that for nearly a year !!! :whine:
I have posted the Interstate Challenge pointscore system seperately over here (http://www.excelrally.com.au/forum/showthread.php?p=867#post867).

Thanks Whitey makes me feel a bit better but we were ahead of the eventual 5th placed Vic with a NSW car sandwiched between us and it prior to the final transport. Totally our fault for not reading the map as well as the notes. We've learnt a lot in a year and part of our learning was preparation prior to each stage, which includes knowing where you are exactly where your going and most importantly how to get there!
Anyway we are in trouble with a service crew for Bega. We can offer a Troop Carrier with all our gear in it if anyone wants to chase us for the day. Bega clashes with Mudbash and as such the Rover Scouts that normally help are not available.

If anyone is interested I will organise a time Saturday afternoon at Bega to scrutineer cars for anyone wanting to speed the line up (any excel, not just NSW). I would also like to do a scrutineer of all the NSW cars anyway as a snappy inspection and was hoping that if I can talk Graham into allowing me to cover the safety check requirements so that you don't all have to get scrutineered 3 times. I will try to call him this week and try to find a suitable spot unless Mick can organise the dealer for a photo location, scrutineering and get together.

Alright, it is now Ok'd with Graham. :) So now we need to organise a venue. Mick, any possibilities of having a stint at the dealer on Saturday afternoon. To make things easy as possible for all excels, you will be able to come either prescrutineered or not, and I (and whatever other scrutineer I can get with an S3) will be doing the safety checks so you do not have to go around to the holden dealer as well. I want to do all NSW excels anyway, so save yourselves having to line up with the masses. As for the Vic excels, it is up to the organisers if they want to do eligibility checks as well, but I encourage everyone to come around to bring the excels together :grouphug: and get the safety check done with the rest of us. Plus I am a cheaper bribe than the other scrutineers :naughty:

Will check with the dealer in the next few days

Just a word of caution - it's possible that you (the Excel competitors) might start alienating yourselves from the rest of the competitors if you start doing things like seperate scrutiny instead of lining up with everyone else. Just something to think about, as you don't want other competitors starting to think things like "Bloody Excels must think they are too good to line up with the rest of us".

I understand where you're coming from Kent, but I'm personally not worried about that perception. I see it as a service for the Excel guys.
If we can show support for the Excel competitors that indicates to others that it makes it easier to compete and that it's not a big scary thing, then we might get a few more new people interested. Just a matter of how it's positioned.
And BTW, we do think we're better...well at least better on the fun/$ scale :)

Sounds like this could be a good chance to have a BBQ :hyper: and a few beers  , get to know a few faces rather then just names on computer screens and the side of cars :grouphug:
any excuse to get drunk is a good excuse :hoot:

While I see your point, scrotumeering at Bega is ALWAYS a poop-fight, so i would have thought that a few less cars in the queue would be seen as a good thing perhaps?

Still looking for a service crew prepared to drive our Troopy to service area during rally... I'll even do the servicing if I have to. The thing will be loaded with food, coffee, stove, tarp, tables, chairs, tools and spares. If I can't get any takers we'll have to give it all a miss, as I said in previous post my regular support are all heading to the Rover Scouts Mudbash so are not available.

I'm pretty sure that I may be able to get someone to help you out, but just in case have you got too much gear that another crew wouldn't be able to carry it with their gear?
I've got myself an upgrade using frequent flyer points to now be riding in a car that has power to all 4 wheels and one of those turbo thingys - just got to try to remember how to nav again.

As for service, I haven't thought that far ahead yet but should not have a problem finding someone or getting some support of someone. If I find someone I will talk to you about it as it sounds like your service set up is better than mine. I will just work out the service stations on the road for fuel as it is easier than filling up in those bloody refueling areas, plus we always have to wait to book into service.
As for scrutineering, it happens over a whole day with the rest of the field so no one pays particular attention to why there is not an excel here at this moment in time. And if we do it at the dealer, it is right across the road from everyone else, and as was said saves a bit of pressure on the 100 cars going through scrutineering as well. Graham is fine with it and we all have to do doco, drivers meet etc with everyone else. Most events don't do safety check anymore so it does not change a lot in that regard.
Everyone make sure you have your driving gear, cotton/wool stuff etc at scrutineering as well.

You should have a message on you mobile phone on Friday night from Adam - I think he is the answer to your problems (or prayers if it has gotten that desperate!).

I wouldnt say that it has power, you might be surprised that an excel is quicker :hyper: It will actually be good to meet you finally.
To all the other excel people, be good to catch up with you all. If there is going to be a gathering of excels, please let me know, im struggling to get the excels up and running here in SA.
See you all at Bega
