Hi
What is the go with fitting a twin cam engine into a single cam car?
Wiring - does it need a different wiring harness?
Exhaust - Are the exhaust manifolds the same?
Fuel system - Same pressure etc
cheers
OK
Its pretty simple really
The ECU and ECU harness will need to come from a twincam Excel but all other harnesses are fine.
We used the standard engine pipe from the twincam as the Singlecam engine pipe has smaller diameter pipes and is about an inch shorter at the rear.
As far as engine mounts are concerned we changed all to the twincam mounts. I believe the only mount that is different is the one at the top near the timing cover on the drivers side so you could possibly use your exsisting SOHC mounts and crossmember. You need to be a bit carefull with the crossmember if the car is an early 94/95 model as they bolt up to a different spot on the Radiator support.
Heater hoses, Radiator hoses are different.

But it still possible to install a twincam into a 94, like ours :naughty:
Ben.
Ben,
I was going to PM you, but thought you might be happy to share here, for posterities sake.
Can you walk us through what's involved in transplanting an early single cam Excel with a twin cam motor? Did you just do the motor, or did you change the power steering over as well?
Yes, the car I have is a non-power steer single cam, 1/95. Power steering is getting higher on the list the more I drive it around... then again, maybe I just need to "Toughen' up, Princess"?
"Toughen' up, Princess"?
You said it baby!!!
Having gone from P/S to Non P/S you get used to it and apart from the feed back throught the steering wheel and the need to hang on to the bastard its OK.
I'm interested in Crazy Daves quick Rack/power steer idea but can't be bothered changing the rack back.
By the way I doo have a band new power steering rack in a box in the container if anyone is interested plus a second hand almost complete kit.
Cheers from Griffith- can't believe we lost the State of Origin tonight

common Fro eat some spinach
We ditched the power steering as well, its just 1 less thing to go wrong,
ill take some photos after Kempsey, but its really simple,
you need to replace the computer and engine loom with the twin cam one,
You then need to ditch the front and back gearbox mounts and attach the early single cam mounts that bolt to the engine block to the twin cam engine block,
The back mount bolts up fine, but they have removed one of the bolt mount points on the front of the engine, so we just welded an 8mm plate to the engine mount so it bolts up to the original twin cam gearbox holes as well for added strength.

After driving the wife's excel with power steering, I reckon i'll be putting it in mine - I think the assistance offered will outweigh the slight additional weight, especially on longer stages (and yes, I have skinny girls arms....)
