I have heard that the legendary Fazz from north of the border is coming in his Excel, plus maybe Dan's dad in what I assume is an Excel??
As of Tuesday night they had received 100 electronic entries and still had to add in the paper entries so with a field limit of 110 I would imagine if you haven't sent one in then you'll be watching from the side lines.
Any other NSW or ACT crews having a go? (Excel or other)
I'll be there in a Datsun OneHundredEightyBee.

Paging Fazz and The Mayor to the red courtesy phone please...
One more Excel and we can enter as a team, which I assume means we are all even more eligible for Champagne, Glory and Gold right??

"There will be a Teams Award, the winner of which shall receive the HRA President’s Cup.
Nominations for inclusion in the Teams Award category will be accepted up until the completion of event scrutiny on Saturday 19 November.
Teams can contain 5 or 6 vehicles with the best 5 scores to count. No vehicle may be entered in more than one team."
Great idea Stu, I am not in any other team, is anyone else in? It would be good to have all Excels but maybe we should draft some Excel competitors who are driving other cars if we can't get the numbers?

Just when you thought that GRUMBO had left the building well I did but I'm popping up at the ALPINE running 3 Spectator points including the the first on day one.:)
Now in order to keep all you EXcellians under control I've devised a system whereby you will all be rated according to your Entry into the area-your effort to entertain while in the area with the final points awarded for style of EXIT.
I will seek the input of fellow officials but there will be NO protests nor will any correspondence be entered into and Grumbo's decision will be final.:lmao:
May the most entertaining Excel win:clap:
Good luck to all who have entered---GRUMBO

Good to hear from you.
We (car 86) would like to apply for bonus points before the event.
As proven at Rally Vic (we have photo evidence), we can fly the flattest for an Excel (Getz's don't count) :lmao: and we also won the Senior's Cup :wtf:.

We made it to the event, it's been a while since we did a route charted event so we are feeling our way; some very soft surfaces today and slippy tricky corners, couple of cars rolled, (not Excels) all Excels finished today, so fingers crossed for the rest of the weekend.
I think we have 290ks of competitive tomorrow!

Wow what a trial, sooo many different conditions and they saved the most inconsistent and changable stages to last. Not sure where we finished and not sure about the others either but man what a challenge.
Time to sink some brews and start telling tales.

Well it never rains but pours-we had been scheduled to run 3 speccie points but the rain washed us out on both Saturday and Sunday-I was a bit peed off on Saturday as I had just driven up to the spec point on the rally route [in my 4x2 Navara complete with road tyres] when 000 arrived announcing that as he was having traction problems in his Pajero coming up said track he then cancelled the stage.:wtf:
As nobody was game enough to tackle the gutter at Specie 1 everyone was rated equally--- so you're all winners:clap:
Well done to everyone and as always the Alpine is an ADVENTURE

Cathy and I had a interesting event, both rewarding & challenging at times.
It all started friday, after doing our halda check, only to have a small pin thats part of the gear box probe sheer in half during the checking of the trip..
We ran off the cars odo for fridays stages, and also lost a c clip half way through SS2 - whilst hunting down a car in front whose dust was blinding our stage..
SS3 we crawled through, completing with 1st, 3rd & 5th...
By the 1st stage on saturday, the car was all working again, & i think we did ok, building up some confidence in all aspects of the car..
Thanks to Murray & Rod, a repair to the gearbox probe pin was made, which lasted the first stage! A bigger thanks to Peter Otzen, who kindly donated his probe to us after his accident on friday.. The plan B probe was wired up ready on friday night ( Thanks Gilly), and put into action on the first service of the day.
The 2nd stage of the day saw us doing reasonably well (in our books), only to get caught out & bogged in 2 foot of mud slush.. Aparently is was standing water at the beginning of the day - but didn't look like it when we went through.
After being pulled out an hour or so later, we casually drove to the finish, to find that our bumper was no longer attached.. Meh.
I think we were due for a service at that point, or one more stage, can't remember, but once we arrived at the service, a check was done, to discover that the alternator adjustment bolt had sheered.. So the gents went quickly to work, pulling the alternator out, and we managed to remove the broken thread quickly, and got the alternator back in, loosing only a few minutes of late running time..
The afternoon was spent doing the long stages, which Cathy & I really enjoyed. I think we beat Tony & Nikki by approx 30 seconds on the first one, 2 seconds on the 2nd, and 1 second on the 3rd! We also managed to pass Jeff Lee, and generally had a blast on all 3 of those stages. It was the first time I have been able to drive this car on decent roads, with everything working.
The 3rd stage we had a bit of a "Moment".. During the last 5 or so k's, it was wet red clay, that was nice and slippy, I was doing well until we came around a right hander in 3rd, when the back end snapped out.. I managed to catch it, with the front coming back around, only to then point me in the direction of some trees that suddenly came into view.. Thanks to luck, rather than skill, we manged to miss them, and slide back onto the road, missing those pesky bad objects.. No pencil stabbings, just a solid talking to from Cathy.. Eeek!
It was back to service, and a check over, before the 2 nights stages.. Well at least they were night stages for us. It seems the crews up ahead got daylight night stages.. So we trundled through, as being unfamiliar with night rallying, we weren't sure if the road was wet or dry.. Parts were dry, but parts were wet as a few found out the harder way. We almost cleaned up a tree on the exit of the turn right (with three white poles inside, and a hole in the outside. No mention of the narrow roads and huge trees either side though..). We were also progessivly loosing the clutch over the course of the afteroon/evening, so gear selection became slower & less of to get it home.
It back to home for sleep, before the Legend John Carney gave the car a check over, wheel alignment & bleed the clutch.
Sundays morning stages, were wet & cut up, and the car felt nervious, so the day was to be spent getting to the finish, avoiding expensive repairs..
I was late informed that the engine was moving alot within the engine bay.. So the mounts which were tired, were very much so tired by now..
It was back to service for another 2 hour nap, the clutch rebled again, the first tire rotation of the event..
The last few stages were again taken carefully, as with the clutch playing up, and the car rather twitchy, I was reminded of an incident that happened a few years ago.. As we don't have a budget for a rebuild, we crusied to the finish..
I think the 2nd last stage, we got through the spec point ok, and gave Doutchy a bath, as well as ourselfves! A few hundred meters later, we were living some scary saturday morning dejavu, through a mud slush. just as we got to the end, the car stalled (couldn't select 1st quickly due to clutch), stopped in 1st, we started the car, and by pure luck we got out & survived. Just. I hear the cars behind us didn't.
The last stage whilst fast and flowing, we again took it easy. Knowing that A) it's the last stage, and B) No cars arrived in control behind us, so if we did have an accident, we could be on our own for a while, with no-one behind.
A massive thanks has to go to John Carney. Not only was he kept busy by us and a few other crews, he has kindly allowed Cathy & I to use his workshop to prep teh car the last month or so.. I Know he's lost some brownie points at home because of us, but his support and fabrication skills have been great! Thanks John.
I also need to thank Richard Gill & Norm Henwood for their help over the weekend. Thanks Norm for bringing me fuel when I needed it, and making sure the ute was nearby when we were! The carrot cake also rocks!
Plenty of other people to thank, but concerend if i mention all the names I might miss some.
Finally, thanks to Cathy - the Champions choice of Co-driver/navigator! It's been a full on few months, which hasn't exactly gone smoothly for various reasons.. Eitherway, thank you so much for putting up with a shitty James & a stressed James at various times.. And of course thanks fro your work inside the car, this weekend past has been full of highs and lows, thanks for keeping me on track & focused ont eh job at hand. Love you babe!
Cheers,
Jimbo
