we are finally getting near the finalisation of the build. What air intakes set ups are people using and where did they source pods etc?

I run a uni filter and you can source them through most auto parts outlets such as Autobarn or direct, but they still charge the same amount. Can be cheaper organising a good deal through a local shop sometimes.
If you still have the battery in the front there is a pod that is cut down to suit ala what Glenn has fitted. If you remove the battery then you can get a full size pod and then you can also run extra socks over them which makes it easier to keep clean on dirtier events as you can swap socks easy at service. Don't get a cheap filter like my car originally had as I then killed a motor from too much dust getting through. Fine on the street but thats it. Motor died in less than 6 months, probably more from the khanacross events than the rallies, but still be careful with anything cheap.
Unifilter pod has been great, easy to install and no issues. Get the one with the neck size that matches the inlet size as bigger is not better as you want to promote a constant flow. You can improve things slightly by making a decent pipe to it.

SS Inductions make a cold air intake for the Excels, we on the other hand grabbed and 30mm drill and made a series of holes along the front edge of the intake snorkel where it runs parallel to the radiator support panel that way we increase the air intake and it is cooled. What I'll be doing is running a snorkel arrangement to a remote location away from engine heat.

SS Inductions make one for the accent, pretty sure they don't for the Excel, if they do its not on my distributor list???

I reckon thats the best idea - running the standard airbox with a decent filter insert and a good cold air feed.
I'm surprised that none of the Excels I've seen using a pod filter have a heatshield setup, and are sitting not far from the exhaust?

SS Inductions sell them O/S for the Accent X3 but not domesticlly though if you ring them direct they have them but they are to expensive for what you get. I found out they had them as an O/S accesory outlet had them listed for Accent X3 and low and behold it was a Australian made product.

Its been on the list since I have been running the car, just haven't had time to get to it yet. It will happen when I stop rolling the car and destroying engines, suspension etc.
Just a heat shield with a bit of cold air plumbing to feed it.

Personally having had a pod filter fall off, stupid rush air rampod filter, not cheap too, due to a heavy rutted dirt road I would go replacement panel everytime. If that means a cheap cotten one and tossing it at end of day, a better flowing K&N one and cleaning it or a foam type and cleaning I think is the better option.
As long as it has one of these attatched to the front of the airbox.

Hot4s did a review of ss inductions, cf intake, pod, nothing, standard, and the cf intake came up trumps with more power, they used a K&N panel filter in the end too.
Pic of mine with a 1.8 beta conversion if your wondering.
