Ok I will ask it a different way for you.

Having gone through the relevant regs am I correct in asuming that in the Excel series it is ok to put a twin cam into a SOHC shell ???

If this is the case is it because the shells are identical ???

If thats the case then maybe you could write to the pocket rocket series guys and get a ruling from them that they would accept a transplant.

I guess you would need to get an official letter from Hyundai stating that other than parts already running in P2 and excel twincam series cars the shells are identical.

Surely the precedent has been set with many people reshelling Escorts that were originally 1600 to put the SOHC 2l in.

Right off to work for four days. Man I dont think I have any knuckles left from the bloody tar removal. Oh and I have only popped one hole in the floor, right over the F#####ing fule tank. Only 65% of the interior to go

Having done the swap over they body shells are pretty much the same. The only real area of difference can be the lower tie bar area of the radiator support panel. Where the engine lateral member bolts on to.

Also Hyundai had twin cams engines in Excels in other countries earlier then 1998. Mark Thompsons Excel is a early twin cam.

Yes any part from an X3 Excel may be used in any other X3 Excel.

I believe that the VIN numbers on the twin CAMs with WU or XU

I don't know whether you can tell manual from auto VIN.

pocket rocket series guys
The PRS isn't my main conern and I'm not basing decisions on being able to compete in that... If i can, then a bonus for local rounds, if not, I'm just happy to have a flog as P2...

How hard is it to convert an auto to manual? Is it a simple swap and pedal box, or are the looms completely different aswell?

Single to twin cam you can tell by the year model designation number which is the 9th digit in the Vin number.

Auto to manual no
