Hi Guys,

I haven't been lurking here for a while but I have been following the series with interest.

My car prep is currently going nowhere (no time, no money, too cold, want my STi back, etc.) although i had been thinking of putting some cheap struts and tyres on it and doing some motorkhana's and supersprints to keep my eye in.

However, the damn thing has broken a timing belt (single cam), I have lost my tame mechanics and I can't be flocked fixing it myself.

So....rather than send it somewhere to be ripped off I wondered whether any of you who are experienced in this task might like to take it on for some beer money or sticker vouchers one Saturday afternoon. I'm happy to pay the right money, but not bend over money to some dodgy workshop.

Alternatively, any suggestions on good workshops preferably around the Blacktown area would be appreciated.

Thanks

To bad you don't live near Nowra as we could have had a couple of nights and done it and then done a dirty south coast khana. They a rocket ships at khanas and motorkhanas, especially with the stock soft suspension, lots of grip.

Hi Dave,
I'd be happy to drop around and put a timing belt on for you.
Did you manage to find out if it is an interference engine?
I guess we'll see when the new belt is on.
Is the car at your office?
How urgent is it, can it wait a till after coffs?

Maybe PM or call me and we can work it out.

cheers

OK, so we finally had time to have a look at this.

The cam definately does not turn when the engine cranks, the belt is intact but seems VERY loose.wtf:

Is it possible a tensioner has failed/popped out and the belt is just slipping on the crank? I don't have a manual so I don't know what the tensioner arrangement is like.

Does anyone know if the workshop manual available on the net?

When I get motivated we'll pull the timing cover off and look further - got the flu today, don't feel like doing anything:whine:

Take 2:

Pete cuts the belt out and discovers 150mm of teeth missing from it.

Don't they have flouride in the water in Korea?

Bah!
