At the half way mark in the NSW Race Brakes Excel rally series Glen Farrant is on track to repeat his series win of 05, taking the first 3 rounds convincingly.
Equal 2nd is Whitey tied with the new driver to the series Mathew Cullen, who has received a swag of points for officiating duties at Narooma. With all but Glen and crazy Dave receiving points at Bega, Glenn has a huge 30 point advantage going into Coffs.
Round 4 will also see the series return of the Factory Team with Mick Gillett at the wheel, and the Excel debut of the Beast of Bondi.
With just 2 weeks to go the Lucky Green Excel Of Cullen RallySport is ready to tackle the fast stages of Coffs, The Team has resolved the alternator dramas that had halted the team at Bega, and Mathew is looking to continue the pace and maturity that was shown on the shire roads at Bega, That saw Mathew running 4th Excel Outright, snapping at the heals Of Crazy Dave, an awesome effort on his 3rd ever rally.
After Bega the Mighty Excel has also been placed on a diet, with the threat of scales being bought to Coffs the team has spent many hours de-taring the shell, and with the addition of some weight saving carbon fibre, we are hoping not to be the heaviest Excel, and should also gain some time on the stages as well.
Ben.

Nice story. I think from memory of Coffs that we hit near 150 down a long straight that ran next to a fence line for a while. There was a bit of a crest but as this was a repeat stage, I remembered to keep the car flat over it and she just kept winding out in 4th down the hill from the crest, and it finished in a fast sweeper at the end of it. It was just the nicest little corner with a big third gear drift through it. So looking forwrad to getting back up there, and likewise trying to get some weight out of the car to put it to min possible for the weighing experiment. I think I will try to get the ride height down a bit although it sounds like they have a jump on the first special spectator stage (as long as there is enough straight for the little excels). One other big challenge we will have up there is with the remaining Gemini series cars. Its time to exert our dominance.
Dave
The Stage you are talking about is Sherwood. Our first run through last year Harv tells me to "hold it flat" to which I respond "I am!!!"
I also like the tight twisty stuff in the middle, good fun.
By the way the scales look unlikely at this stage. They are down at John Wills at Yass at the moment. He is doing some work on the new I30.

I understand that the Gemini of Adam Phillips may have sprouted twin carbs in an effort to stay in front of the rampaging excels.:D

Bummer,
maybe we need to have a weigh in day, any idea when they may be available?

 I remember Coffs from last year very well...being seeded in an "excel sandwich"! Would you like to remind everyone of the results and how many stages the excels beat the gemini series car?? And which finished higher in the results?
Still looking forward to the challenge again this year, even if the car may not be a series car.. :naughty: Maybe we're bringing the gemini back to the excels level for some competition this year, or maybe we're just trying to compensate for over 15yrs of technology advancements the excels have over us :potstir:
Sherwood Rd..long fast uphill, across the top, then winds downhill, carry the moment and when it gets open, hold it flat along the fence line, hold it flat into the sweeper, just need to go back to 4th from 5th, back into some twisty bits and finish with a few more open corners..love it!
I can't wait! :hyper:
See you all there..
Cheers,
Adam

Hi Adam,
good to see you registered on the forum "of the next big thing"
I think i might take up fishing, if getting a huge bite is that easy.:potstir:
see you at coffs :D
Maybe we need an inter one make series challenge, just for a bit of sport.
Top X seeded Excels verses top X seeded Geminis, based on the make with the least entries.
We'll even let you run with the twin carbs.
Losing team shouts the winners.

Whitey,
Talk to Dave Thompson, i think the standard bet is "CROWNIE PER HEAD PER STAGE"
Dave is an expert at it, can calculate book in times, stage times and the crownie count. And comes with leatherman(and isn't afraid to use it)

Sounds like a bit of knowledge there. I was lucky to remember there was a big straight that was fast. We will have to push hard to compensate for that and try to avoid getting water in through my roof vent at the water crossing this year. Made for a good picture though.
a reliable source advised that there has been no rain for a couple of weeks so the water level maybe a bit lower through Store Road this year.
