Lives in Gods Country- The shire
Works Homebush Bay- Hyundai head office- Regional Parts Manager NSW
2 Kids and 1 minister for home affairs
Started Ralling in about 1986 and joined Coffs Harbour & District Sporting Car Club. Used my old mans Mini Panel van for Motorkhanas and Khanacrosses for some time. Navigated for Harv in Martin Quinns RX2 from about 1988 and rolled first stage/first rally with Harv up at Armidale.
Finished campaining with Harv after 1992 Bay Stages Rally. We did a few course car jobs for Bob Halpin at the Coffs ARC rounds before I brought a Group G 1600. Did a few rallies in the 1600 including the Caves Classic.
Moved back to a Mini and while intending to go rallying but lost my way and only competed at club level Khanacrosses and dirt circuits.
In 2005 while at the bar at Sails Resort at Port the Excel plan was hatched and we started by sourcing a car through Allianz Insurance and getting the all important six signature form signed at Hyundai.
Talked Harv into it as well as some other North Shore members including Wayne Luxford and Colin Haycroft(They could be called the Ex-presidents Service crew as they have all had the top gig at NSSCC)
I crashed the Excel testing up near Hampton testing so we missed the goal of getting to Bega in 2005. The first event for the excel was the Bay in 2005 which started the trend of finishing second Excel. Even getting to run at the Bay looked a bit of a challange when we couldn't get the car Rally Rego'd in time and we had dramas with the RTA. Some interpretation of the use of trade plates and a helpful highway patrol and considerable effort by Mr Bigg and Cams got us to the start line.
2006 was looking to be a great year for Hyundai and the Rally program but in March we lost our biggest supported at Hyundai. It had then became a game of holding on for the ride.
The second car for Victoria also had us competing in two states and I think the team was a bit disappointed that we couldn't get the second car ready for the first Vic round at Traralgon. One of the highlights for 2006 for me was having the two cars at both Bega and the Bay. While Bega was a bit short on Km's those shire roads were worth the effort and the Bay saw us sustain damage to both Excels and have one not make it to the finish but we all had a good time anyway.
While plans for 2007 are still not confirmed we will be out there is one form or another.
Cheers Mick
