Hi, excuse my ignorance, but I'm new to Excels. I've rallied a few cars up here in Qld, but the most fun was in the Gemini series. That was a while ago and I'm thinking of doing an Excel for the same sort of total commitment attitude that's needed. I have lots of 'stupid' newbe questions.
How do stage times of Geminis and Excels compare.
The Gemini was bullet proof, you know, full throttle, peak revs in second gear for what seemed an eternity up seemingly endless hills. How do Excels compare. Does the standard ECU have a rev limiter.
I've repaired quite a few accident damaged Excels, and they seem quite fragile. The chassis rails seem to kink from the slightest impact.
There was a book around on preparing Geminis for rallying. Is there a similar one for Excels.
Great forum. Lots of useful stuff.

Hi Kelvin,

I think the excels have been killing them in stage times.

Someone will come along soon that knows the goss.

cheers

Most events we are beating the geminis. The only event we haven't really was Coffs last year and we hope to set that straight next weekend. We all had a few niggly problems (but the gemini may have also) and there was pacing for the points and that sort of thing. Adam Phillips is as quick as they come in the geminis anywhere and will be at Coffs, albeit with twin carbs now, so it will be a good test, although it sound slike he knows those roads fairly well. But will let you know after the event.

As for the strengths of the excels, they are brilliant. Hyundai have constructed an indestructible car. Most have hte guys hold them flat until they hit the rev limit (I think over 7000rpm), gearboxes aren't a problem, fuel consumption is good, and the body is strong. I rolled mine last year after tank slapping a bank, doing a pirawette through the air so the roof didn't get touched, landing on the other side and then solidly on the wheels. Car just got a bit of a tug (half hour job at most) and then some bog and is running again. They definitely build strong cars,
