I am finally doing something about the rattles in the top end of motor and realised that the timeing chain is stretched. However the timeing marks are different in the big blue bible compared to the Hayes manual, does anyone know what the correct marks are as one is 90% out compared to the other.

I'm not sure about the DOHC, but the Haynes instructions for replacing the timing belt on a SOHC are wrong...
I'd be going with the factory instructions before anything else.

Job's done the Hayes manual was correct this time. Use genuine HMC parts and you can't mess it up as Hyundai have made the links that line up with the cam marks a different colour.
New problem has anyone else had a problem with the crankcase position sensor cutting out when the motor warms up?

Reminds me of when I first tried to start the reco motor. Unwrapped it from its cling wrap, fit to car and crank with the engine spinning over way to freely. Turned out they had fitted the inlet cam 180deg out due to the way the marking system works. That from a engine workshop that just pumps out exchange reco engines continuosly. Apparently the mechanic got given a few words afterwards but when I saw the marks I could see how it could happen.

When Harv, Mick and I were doing the single cam to twin cam swap and fitting the adjustable cam we noted that the advice in the factory manual and the actual timing marks were not the same.
