Ive been running in Khana-X for the past few years and I am looking to progress into full rallies. Ive been asking around and I am told the Hyundai Series is the best way to enter rallying in NSW.

Ive got just a few questions to ask, but the answers are probably bigger than Texas. What needs to be done (on the cheap end of the scale) to pass scruitineering for the Hyundai series.

My budget will be quite low. What is the cheapest way to acheive this?

As no one with more knowledge has replied I will throw my 2 cents in.

Scruitineering for any rally car concentrates on safety and compliance with roadworthiness. So things that are checked at Khana x such as harnesses and extinguishers are the same with rally. There are a lot of things scrutineers look at and not many are aware or spend very much time checking that series cars comply with series regs.

If you want information on what can be modified to comply with the Excel series have a look at your states regualation on this site, they are more or less the same accross the country.

If you are Sydney based come and have a chat with me or call me or better still come up to Bago in the weekend.

Cheers Mick

So if I picked up a standard Excel the basics that will be needed to compete will be a cage/race seats and 5 point harnesses?

Obviously will be at a disadvantage with an unmodified engine/chassis, but it will be a sufficient to run?

Whitey ran with a standard unmodified chassis, ie not seam welded for a while, it will crack eventaully, but it depends on how hard you drive it.

Nup. They're all unmodified. That's the beauty of the series. No dollars to spend there!

Glenn is right all the engines are standard. After you have spent your money everywhere else on the car and are doing rallies etc every weekend and you still have some money left, than think about the engine

You are far better off spending time behind the wheel then spending it on the engine. The two HMCA cars have probably got the fresher engines in both NSW and Vic. Horse power doesn't mean a lot when we are still behind the Fazz on most stage times and even someone with ability (Ed) couldn't catch the Fazz.

Bega was a prime example when Glenn won the Excels from Paul Batten. Paul did get him in the end on the long event but it took some doing.

So after you have got all the stuff to get the car to its first rally the next port of call for the credit card should be struts I would suggest. This is probably the area of best inprovement to a standard excel you can make.
