Hi All,
this season we ran 175 silverstone S505 tyres on the standard steel rims. The only real problem we had was that I think the tyres are a little wide for the rims causing the middle of the tyres to wear out before the edges. Just wondering what other tyres people are running and sizes etc. Are 165's available? also our current tyres are around $175/ea so if there are any cheaper alternatives with equivalent performance I'd be keen to know.
I'm guessing the other option is to stump up for some 6" wide alloys but there are some pretty rough tracks over here and we dented a few of the steel ones (at least they only cost me $11 each to replace :)
cheers,
Dave

Most of the NSW guys are running the SP85 185 Dunlop. We ran some SP85 165 Dunlops on day 2 at ROM and I don't think Geoff noticed much differnce although there was no tread on the LH front after.
A few Vics and Whitey have tried Yoko's and I'm not sure what the outcome is or what they are compairing them with.
Cheers Mick

Emma and some others in Vic, and myself have been running the AUSPORTS which are a lot cheaper, contact Emmas Dad Glenn if you are interested. At $115- they are a bit cheaper than the others and Glenn might do a deal of some sort for the competitors. Emma finished second this year and I have been on pace when everything else has been working.

I ran Yokies 185 X 70 Kevlar medium compound for the first time on Saturday suddenly my times are within seconds of Emma and I've cut minutes off my time compared to other VRC cars these tyres grip better in loose corners and don't chop the edges at all, mind you I did have an extra 400+ k of practice in the Alpine, so while no doubt the drivings improved I think improved tyres have helped as well. Do cost more but if they last better it might be worth it... I'd like to thank GOTYA First Aid who continue to sponsor me by buying me tyres!

The Allan Bros who borrowed Daniel's car used Dunlop SP83's which cost around $135 and they were 3 rd fastest prior to the engine saying enough is enough.
I used silverstone's early in 06 and then Ausports for the remainder of 06 and 07

Thanks for the reponses so far, a few questions:
Dave - what size(s) are the Ausports available in?
Erny - what were you running before as a comparison?
John - again what size were the sp73's?
are many others still running on steel rims or have most gone to the alloys?
thanks again
Dave

we started on steelies, and they did the job, it was a little easy to buckle them though, And the alloys are wider and have a better offset.

Ausports in 13s are 175/70
Dunlop SP85 are 185/70
Dunlop SP83 are 175/70 and 165/?70?
Silverstone are different measurement but similar to SP85
Khumos probably more about the 175/70 size from memory.

thanks Guys,
I'll have to chat with some suppliers and see what prices I can come up with. Anyone good at marketing? a deal where someone buys your tyres sounds great :D
cheers,
Dave
