Hi folks my name is John Ernst and apart from getting into rally driving for the first time ever in 2006 (thanks to JC and the Hyundai Series), I have had the pleasure of spending many thousands of Kilometers driving on dirt roads all over Australia as part of work. My interest till recently has been in running outdoor adventure activities in the remote parts of the Victorian Alps which requires a good knowledge of handling a Toyota troop carrier on some of the steepest and most slippery roads in the country often with a trailer load of large Canadian canoes. My other passion apart from my family and friends is the old Leyland P76 and I have quite a collection including yes the Targa Florio (I have a super rare green one) a top of the line Executive V8 and Street Machine version which is now being transformed into a HRA rally car, much to the horror of the P76 fraternity. I have spent the better part of 30 years standing in all kind of weather assisting in rallies of all types including two round Australia's the Repco of 1979 and the 1995 one in which Hal Moloney was cheated out of top 10 place in his P76. In recent years I have assisted with rallies in Gippsland including many HRA Mirboo Meanders that often passed by the gate to my property high in the Strzelecki Ranges.:)
