G'day to you all.

Been reading through this forum and decided it was best I join. Couple of questions to keep my interest up.

Been around this sport for a few years, done a bit of driving when I was a bit younger, done a bit of Navving in more recent years, been involved in organising the odd rally as well.

Starting to get keen doing doing a bit of driving again and this series seems a good, relatively inexpensive way of getting out there again . Given that it would take me a couple of years to buy & build up a car (spending money in one hit is likely to lead to the divorce court :naughty:), how long is this series expected to last. In reading right back through the forums I picked up the impression that the intention is to kill off these cars in a few years and go to a later model.

Can anyone give me a time frame on this, would not be happy building up a car to compete in a series, then have the rug pulled after a couple of years and have to justify it all again.

PS: Forgot to mention that I am a Mexican and am keen despite John's over the top exuberance sometimes :|

Mark we are just starting and I can't see a change of cars in the foreseeable future can't even see another car of it's type being sold in Australia that might take its place. If you feel my excitement for the series is "over the top" I'll take that as meaning counter-productive to the cause. Hence I will now not mention the series again, hate to be the one that puts others off. Hope someone else might start beating the drum for the series then.
:spank:

Apologies if you took that the wrong way John. But sometimes your enthusiasm gets the better of you.

By all means promote the series and the cars, but some of your claims have been a bit ambitious and get some offside. In saying that a bit of banter can be fun as well :) .

The more I see of this series and the cars, the more my old car bias is fading and the desire to get out and have a go again is reappearing as it looks to be an affordable way to have fun. Getting my teenage son away from the computer and into the garage would be a side benefit.

I hope this series doesn't die off fo a few more years, as I have my two nephews keen to get on board! They're aged 14 and 12, so it'll be a least 2 1/2 years before they're of age to rally!!!

Get an Excel now and let those kids get started in motorkhana's and khanacross/autocross ,hillclimds and sprints as soon as you can. The experience will be invaluable. I reckon these cars will be around for many years.

I agree. The Geminis lived on for many years and there is no reason why these cars shouldn't have a similar life (assuming we can still find dirt roads to rally on...) In any event they would be a good car for khanas etc and for young blokes would be a great way of learning car control.

JC thinking about PAC needing a new car for kids program / club car, they want an Auto lets look at the Auctions and get an Excel for a couple of hundred and the kids can relate to them.

The amount of excels that are around and the way the series is setting up, I and others that have been around rallying for awhile have put guestimates of around 15 years as being useable. At this stage 4wd one makes series could not be run cheaply and many parts of rallying around the world are rebuilding 2wd series. No recent FWD cars have come in the numbers that the X3 excel did and they are performing well. COuld go on and on but these are just a few points to re-assure you we have a really big future for a long time yet. Keep watching as it is only going to grow rapidly so get involved earlish so you can be somewhere when it gets bigger (Sounds like some dirty multi-level marketing scheme except its fun and you don't sell anything).

And Anthony 12 you can motorkhana and 14 you can khanacross. Excels are very quick and easy to drive at these events.

Thanks for the input. Am getting keener by the minute.
Bloody wife is trying to destroy my budget by buying herself a new road car though :headbang:

Will have to work on her some more, nothing wrong with her old VN at all really.;)

Its even better as you get 2 excels, one for the rally car and one for the road car. Road car is then good for spares in an emergency or vice a versa, plus if you buy a wreck for spares you have spares for both, cheap bits and pieces and they make a great car with lots of room, boot very similar to commodore.

Every time I see an Excel now I think "MMM - spare parts !"

We have a spare and it has already scored brakes of the wreck I bought and a couple of bits and pieces inside (dash mat etc). Trying to work out which seats are better before I toss one lot out.

My wife has to check it out occasionally to make sure I haven't taken anything of it for the rally car.
