Just a quick poll to see who's running their Excel this year?
If you are building a car please post when you think it will be ready for action

Mathews Excel could be at Narooma, as the Sprinter is still missing a gearbox, but definatly 2nd round for us. We will probably just official an Narooma to get max points ;)
The final peace of the puzzle arrived today, the nice spiffy new DMS supsension.
It really just needs to be log booked now.
Ben.

I'm back but Panel Beater will probably not have car scrutineer friendly enough for Narooma. I will be down there with or without excel anyway as will do a stage Commander job or something if I am not running.:D Always was a friendly event for competitors and officials alike. Hope to get the rest of the year in although the race suit thing may make it hard, which is why I didn't want to blow the officiating points yet. Prefer to have done it at a state round. BUt then again as Coffs is State and has awesome roads, it might be time to start saving every spare cent for a suit.

From our meeting the other night I think we will have 7 cars at the start of the season, just concerned we are not getting other Victorians using this site. Don't know why.

I've bought an Excel so I guess my duck is shot!
It's a 97 SOHC 3dr Sprint from our good friends at Car Auctions Sydney - speak to Ric Cary but don't mention my name. My parole officer says I'm not supposed to be within 5km of him.
Car is OK - 220k (ouch), coupla little dents, good interior and minor misfire (bad plug at No.1:confused: yet to be looked at).
Realistically, I can't see it in a forest this year, though.:o
It is primarily a runabout for our computer technicians who don't like parking their WRX's in unsalubrious locations but I figured if I was going to spend $2.50 on a disposable car it might as well be something I can have fun with later.
I plan to sticker it up, put some suspension and wheels and tyres on it and maybe a cold air system and do motorkhanas and supersprints to keep me interested in the meantime.
Later in the year we can look cage etc and maybe get back to the forest!:D

we should be ready to run at the first event in SA (hopefully we wont be the only ones!)
Only issue at the moment is my wife is due to give birth to our first child within three days of the first event  so have to wait and see...

Just as a note, when i got my first excel home it ran like rubbish, a new set of plugs and leads and all was good again, hopefully the same for you! I'm told its pretty common with the excels.

Our rallying is a little up in the air at the moment. I don't think we will have our own Excel running in 2007 but fingers crossed for the 2008 season in SA.

Chassis is straight but there still is a big gap around the passenger door and the tailgate. Nothing a bit of race tape can't fix. I might try and get the wrinkly car through scrutineering (might be a few drinks to be given ;)) so I am pushing to run Narooma at this stage although it will look as though it had already done half a rally and rolled but managed to keep going. Fingers crossed I get it out there. There will be a lot of late nights between now and then though.

I would like the car to be at least legit in what I would allow and it is nearly there. Bugsy is the scrutineer down there anyway so at least we have a reasonable person and not a Canberra type scrutineer. The object at the moment is to get the passenger door to open and close properly and the wheels all pointing the same direction. If that happens then everything else I am happy to ignore.
Wil be a bit multi coloured with a green boot and a green side door, plus some of it in primer etc.
Mark is ready to run, so entry is going in.

OK!
I'm all set and raring to go.
The car is in great nick after some post season attention and at the moment it's sitting in the carpark downstairs ready to be pointed southwards towards Narooma (driving down and trailering back).
Drove it last night for the first time in a couple of months and it's all good.
The plan this year is to do as much as the funds will allow (yeah I know, that's everyone's plan).
I'm hoping to do all of the Excel rounds and the NSW State Championship and I'm starting to think about The Alpine in preference to running the Natcap at the end of the year. I'm sure the funding will dry up before all of that gets done, but you've got to aim high, right?!
See y'all in Narooma/Bega/Tumut :)
Cheers
Glenn
