Hey guys, just thought I would give you a brief update on what is happening in Tassie.

We havn't had the following that we would of liked to have had with the Excel series, it's only myself building/running one. But that dosn't stop me from still trying to get people into it. I ran the last khanacross in the excel as a shakedown for the next Tasmanian Rally Series event. The car seems all good. The car is getting some big Excel rally stickers put on the side of it next week (very similar to David White's car) .

Tafe Launceston has shown interest in the series and is keen to start running in the series with the potential start up of a Motorsport course similar to Kangman Tafe.

I hope to get a couple of the other state excel competitors down for an holiday (cough) i mean event lol:). Maybe then I could promote it as a series as I would have more than 1 car entering events.

Anyway that is what is happening Ill post some pictures up shortly.

Luke any chance of posting the Tassie Callender of Events, would have liked to have done the Styx but didn't know about it until it was to late. Have just made contact with Toll Shipping and working out how we can do the Hellyer Gorge Rally, might need some help with service as we will only come over with car and spares nothing else, Toll will take the car and two people.

Yea very keen to see you come over. I'll be competing at the Hellyer and other Tassie events so John or any other Excel competitor wishing to come over dosn't need to worry about OE spares or service crew:). I have plenty of OE parts.

14th June - NWCC - Hellyer Multi-club Rally - TRS3 - Location: North West

26th June - 500CCT - Multi-club Huon Rally - TRS4 - Location: South

13th September - MSCT - Multi-club Auspine Rally - TRS5 - Location: North East

I'm keen to help with anything else that's needed.

Just did the sums for Tassie:Spirit of Tassie O/N sail $73 per person deck cargoCar $72 one way X 2 = $290.Jet Star from Tulla to Launi $79.Jet Star from Luani to Tulla $69.Rally fee about $250.00Total: $688$438 car and crew return to Tassie + rally $250. Estimate for Bega fuel for towing car $200 + $450 - $500 entry for Bega. That means overall cost about the same for Vics worth considering to give our Tassie Excellian a hand.

I think this could be on the cards john. I wonder if we get a group discount of SOT?!:naughty:

Lets have a discussion about this and other things at Bairnsdale.

Couple of things to remember - The cheap fares on the spirit of Tas are for chairs only, not the most comfortable sleep, a cabin costs more. Toll Shipping can deliver a car to Burnie on a direct drive on drive off boat from Melbourne, but no passengers (can't remember the cost).

The Rally is in Burnie, so fly to Wynyard on Qantas or Rex, it will cost more than Jetstar to Launceston but is only a few Km from Burnie, rather than 150km from Launceston. There are only limited flights to Wynyard.

The roads there are great, if only there was a bitumen stage through Hellyer Gorge !!

Good idea Col, Toll is very dear at the moment over 400 one way but it does include 2 passengers.

I could inquire at Searoad they also do trips to Devenport, from Melbourne.

A few beers in the bar would fix that :naughty:

... or just send a service bunny over with the car, while the crew fly in the morning of the event like works drivers

Wots the story with servicing at this event. Is it central service or leyland bros?

If central then we can consolidate our service equipment and service crews which would reduce the costs.

Col

Is there much of an issue with making it a round of the Vic Excel series and I guess moving on from there would ROM be a included round also?

Can't believe this just a had call from a former employer wants to pay me to take a group of Adults with mental illness (not ralliest) to Tassie for 4 days prior to the rally Tuesday to Friday night!!! They also wanted to know if I knew anyone with counselling experience that may also be available? My Nav is a cousellor, yahoo free trip to tassie and I get paid for the week. Now I just need to find out if anyone is avaialbe to accompany my car on the boat to and from? As I will have to go by plane.

OK here we go I've checked out the information in relation to the rego required to run in Tassie. Cars with full Vic Rego no problems however those on unregistered vehicle permits will be required to obtain a temporty Tassie Permit for the event. You'll need to fill out the form attached to get the permit, it is good for 28 days so if you need to have extra work done to the car it will be OK for the period of the permit while in Tassie.http://www.transport.tas.gov.au/registration_forms

Sadly I have run into a dilemma.

As we are unable to take the friday night boat due to time restraints I am unable to make it. Working night shift means I would have to take the thursday off also. Spoke to the guys at work last night and they weren't keen on the idea. So at this stage I am out for this event!

Why aren't all employers unserstanding of motorsport!!:splat:

Aaron if someone could take your car on the boat would this allow you to fly over and not need time off work?

We are procrastinating over whether we will go or not. If we do decide to go we can probably take your car if this helps.

I know JohnE was looking for someone to do the same but I'm sure we can work it all out somehow.

I have taken it into acount, but once i start flying to places is when it starts getting expensive...

Although, my housemate works for Virginblue (cheap flights) so I may just be able to do this....

Now I just need to get my thinking cap on and work out a plan.

Hey Tony, good excuse to come down..
Yea this seems like an alright plan, Get your navigator to drive it on Thursday. Ill pick you up from Launceston airport on Friday(reasonably cheap flights). We just need someone to drive John's car on the boat?

There has got to be someway around this...

My thought was, I can drive my car and nav can drive Aarons and surely they will let two of us look after Johns car on the boat. Then we just need someone at the other end to pick up Johns or drive it to where we need to go?

:)All good, provided they let two of us on the boat with three cars.

Bronni to take car over on Thursday night, Luke to pick me up from Launceston airport, and drop me off at Davenport. We will then travel together to Hellyer (not sure where we are staying yet). After rally high tail it back to boat in time for 8 pm sailing Saturday night.

Now if anyone is going on boat as well could you please contact me in relation to the Thursday night sailing as Bronni can't reach the pedals in my car!!!

Sorry all we won't be able to make it, Nikk has an exam on the Friday afternoon and it's all going to be to hard. We are still interested to go down to Tassie at some stage so maybe we can go down later in the year and get a couple of Excels at a couple of Luke's events.

SOT won't allow that we need to accompany the car, might have one more lead otherwise it is all over red rover.
